Standing indignantly outside the door,Tai-yu was about to argue with the maid,but,she thought,she was after all an outsider here.It would be foolish to do so.Suddenly,she heard the sound of Pao-yu and Pao-ch'ai talking and laughing inside.This upset her even more.The more she listened,the more distressed she felt.Oblivious to the cold dew on the green moss and the chill wind on the path,she gave way to sobs.
