The next day was the Festival of Grain in Ear.It was a time-honoured custom on this day,most faithfully observed by women,to offer a feast to the God of Flowers.When Pao-ch'ai found that Tai-yu had not come yet,she went to call her.As she approached Bamboo Lodge,she saw Pao-yu enter the courtyard."Pao-yu and Tai-yu have lived together under one roof,"she reflected."They are so free and easy together.If I follow Pao-yu in,he may not like it and she may resent it.I had better go back."
