One day,the chief steward of the Tsungshun prince's household came to Jungkuo Compound to search for a runaway actor by the name of Ch'i-kuan.He talked to Pao-yu's father,Chia Cheng,and suggested that the actor had fled the prince's palace and hidden in the compound with Pao-yu's help.Alarmed by this,Chia Cheng beat Pao-yu soundly with a rod.Pao-yu's buttocks and legs were beaten black and blue.
