Tu Pao,native of Sishu and prefect of Nanan during the Southern Sung Dynasty,was a noted Confucianist and learned man.Tu Pao and his wife,Lady Chen,had no son but only a pretty and gifted sixteen-year-old daughter named Li-niang.Prefect Tu had been looking for a tutor for his daughter in the hope that by studying more Confucian classics,Li-niang would become a fine example of virtuous conduct,like those worthy and accomplished women of old time.On this day Prefect Tu had no business in his office and was discussing Li-niang tutor with his wife.
