It is located at Shi-Quan Street in Suzhou city.It was a private chamber in the South Song Dynasty, but ruined afterward. In later Qing Dynasty,it was Song's resident garden. As its owner was a "fishing fan",the name of the garden was nominated from the meaning of fishmen "Wangshi",which means fishmen in Chinese language.Besides, the garden is near the Wang-Sin terrace,so the owner adopted the both words' homophonies. This was the other meaning of the garden's name. The original features to keep until today,Wangshi Yuan is a few one among the Suzhou's gardenings. There are three court-yards joining from the front to the back court-yard in the resident part in the garden. The formal hall is "Wanjuan Tang",and on the opposite side of it is an exquisite carved arch over a gateway with brick-flower.The third back yard is an inner hall whose name is "Xiexiu Lou".There is a small door in the west side of "Jiao Ting",from which one can enter another part of the gardening. The pond is the center of the garden, the south of which is the place for banquet, and the study as a main part is in the north. The area of the garden is well know for the layout of the hall, suitable arrangement for the space, the flower's shadow to the move wall and ridges & peaks taken as windows. All this makes one feel it not small though in actual smallness.Without doubt,it is a master piece of the works of the classical resident gardens of mid-small size in the south of the river.
