HuNan is also an inland province in central China. The province is rich in mineral and agricultural resources and surrounds a broad, fertile alluvial plain in the north.There is a series of low hills in the east, south, and west. Summer rice and winter wheat are the leading crops quite like in HuBei, with tea and cotton.Antimony, manganese, mercury, tungsten, and phosphates are its mineral resources.Changsha is the capital of HuNan Province, a busy port on the Xiang River.It is said to be the industrial, transportation, and cultural center of a rich agricultural region. Manufactures are advanced,including machine tools, aluminum, processed food (especially rice), chemicals, electronic equipment, and embroidered textiles,etc.Another point should be mentioned: Changsha is associated with the early career of Mao Zedong, who was born in nearby Shaoshan and spent most of the period from 1913 to 1921 here.Visitors can go to monuments and other cities (Zhuzhou,Xiangtan,Shaoyang and Hengyang) to have a good time.Area, 210,500 sq km; population 64,400,000 (2000).
